Tesla Model 3: Germany start with 58.000 Euro

The 3 model is to become Tesla's “Volks-E-Wagen”. The first models for Germany are a bit too expensive for that.

Tesla is initially launching its mid-size sedan Model 3 in Germany in the expensive and particularly powerful versions. The price list for the first mass market model of the Californians starts at 57.900 Euro, all-wheel drive and the largest of the available batteries (80,5 kWh) are standard. The drive is provided by two electric motors with a total output of either 335 kW / 456 PS or 358 kW / 487 PS. The more powerful “performance” variant even costs from 68.600 euros. Interested parties can configure and pre-order their car until the end of December, deliveries are scheduled to start in February 2019.

The range of the four-door vehicle is said to be 530 kilometers (WLTP). Charges can be made to the company's own Supercharger quick-charging stations against payment. There is no longer free electricity like the introduction of the larger Model S. As the first American model, the 3 model will be equipped with the CCS charging socket, which is widely used in Germany, so that DC columns from other providers can also be used.

Customers in Europe as well as in the USA have to wait for the inexpensive basic version with rear-wheel drive and 50 kWh battery. When announcing its volume model, Tesla had promised an entry-level price around the 35.000 dollar, just under 31.000 euros. This variant has now been announced for the second half of 2019. So far, customers in the USA have had to invest at least 45.000 dollars, just under 40.000 euros.
