So far, Transformer mobiles have been up to mischief, especially in the cinema world. Now one should also come to us on the street. The folding car is electric and particularly environmentally friendly.
On IAA Mobility (September 7th to 12th) will be the Israeli one Electric car-Start-up City Transformer present the near-series version of an ultra-compact electric car. The special feature of the Stromer, which is suitable for a maximum of two adults and announced for 2023/24, is its variable vehicle width.

With the help of a patented adjustment mechanism, the city flea, which weighs 450 kilograms without a battery, should be able to shrink the track width on the front and rear axles from 1,40 to 1,0 meters - even while driving. If necessary, the traffic area used can be adapted to the level of single-lane vehicles according to the traffic and driving situation. In the shrunken state, up to four City Transformers can also be parked in a car parking lot.
The performance of the folding car is still unknown
The vehicle is based on a small skateboard platform with a battery for a range of 180 kilometers in the underbody. Two electric motors mounted close to the wheel on the rear axle provide propulsion - in the small format there is a maximum of 45, with a full track width it is 90 km / h. City Transformer has not yet given any key data on engine performance. In accordance with the approval as an L7e vehicle, however, the engine output must not exceed 15 kW / 20 PS. Although a representative of the electric lightweight construction class, the Urban EV should offer several airbags, ABS, ESP as well as gullwing doors and air conditioning.
City Transformer also promises little energy consumption when driving or during production. One of the reasons for this is the small number of components. Instead of 25.000 as normal cars, the Stadtstromer is to be composed of only 1.500 parts. A price for the City Transformer has not yet been announced, but it is almost certain that it will be in the five-digit range.
