The new: Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake

Mercedes renews after the CLA also the associated Kombiableger. He has grown and with him the portfolio of digital possibilities.

Almost half a year before its market launch, Mercedes is showing the estate version of the four-door A-Class coupé at the Geneva Motor Show (March 7th - 17th). The CLA Shooting Brake has grown by almost five centimeters to 2015 meters compared to the first version built in 4,68. It also increased in width by a good five centimeters and now measures 1,83 meters without exterior mirrors. The slight increase in length goes hand in hand with an overall height that is two centimeters lower, which means that overall a somewhat more dynamic line is achieved. The wheelbase (2,72 m, + 3 cm) and the track are also increasing. In everyday use, however, the significantly wider loading space opening is likely to be more noticeable. It now measures 87 instead of the previous 64 centimeters and should make loading with somewhat bulky luggage much easier.

Apart from the design changes, the new Shooting Brake differs from its predecessor primarily by the possibilities of networking. As in the A-Class is MBUX (Mercedes Benz User Experience) on board and "determines the experience in the interior" as the Mercedes description. In fact, since its debut in the A-Class a year ago, the connectivity and operating system has been gradually developed further and is being used in all new Daimler models. And because development in the digital domain is much faster than in classic automotive engineering, each new generation of MBUX comes with new capabilities. In the CLA, for example, it is already able to differentiate between the spoken commands of the driver and front passenger and, if necessary, also reacts to hand signals. A new comfort control can be connected to the data of a smartwatch and takes into account the driver's condition based on his stress level.

In everyday use more conspicuous, however, should be the much wider load compartment opening

The strongest engine for the Shooting Brake is a two-liter turbo gasoline engine with 165 kW / 225 PS, which drives the front wheels by means of a seven-speed DSG gearbox and consumes an average of 6,5 liters. Until the market launch in September, however, other engines from the portfolio of the A-Class should be available. As expected, Daimler is not yet pricing. The Shooting Brake based on the old A-Class is currently available from 31.178 Euro, the new CLA can order from 32.500 Euro. The Shooting Brake should be a bit more expensive.
