The new Porsche 911 Carrera and Carrera S - a new generation of the sports car icon

The Porsche 48 Carrera has now been around for 911 years. Porsche is now showing the latest 911 model with a flat, stretched silhouette, tense surfaces and precisely designed details. Unmistakably, this is a real 911. In keeping with the tradition of the 911, the unmistakable Porsche design language expresses power and elegance with its sinews and muscles. A new Porsche XNUMX Carrera is coming onto the market and it looks very sporty.

Up to 20-inch wheels, a wheelbase that is 10 centimeters longer and the reduced height form the basis for a sporty appearance. At the same time, the compact exterior dimensions typical of a sports car have been retained. At the front, the arched fenders typical of the 911 catch the eye. They emphasize the wider track so that the new XNUMX Carrera models stand even more firmly on the road. The newly designed exterior mirrors are mounted on the door panel and not in the mirror triangle as before. This not only offers aerodynamic advantages, but also underlines the new design line and the visual width.

The completely new lightweight body is an intelligent aluminium-steel construction. It makes a significant contribution to reducing the weight of up to 45 kilograms. And that with significantly higher rigidity. Aerodynamic optimization enabled the lift of the new 911 Carrera to be further reduced while maintaining a very good drag coefficient.

The interior is based on the Carrera GT

An interior was designed to match the modern exterior design, the architecture of which is based on that of the Porsche Carrera GT. The driver is now even more closely integrated into the cockpit thanks to the center console that rises towards the front with the high gearshift or selector lever that is typical of motor racing and is particularly close to the steering wheel. As on the exterior, classic Porsche elements can also be found in the interior: the central rev counter and the ignition lock to the left of the steering wheel. the instrument cluster with five round instruments – one of which is a high-resolution multifunction screen.

The new 911 Carrera and the 911 Carrera S set the bar a good deal higher in terms of performance and efficiency. Compared to the predecessor, fuel consumption and emissions are reduced by up to 16 percent. This is achieved, among other things, by systems and functions such as auto start/stop, thermal management, vehicle electrical system recuperation, the world's first seven-speed manual transmission and so-called coasting. The new electromechanical power steering not only offers typical Porsche precision and feedback, but also contributes to increased efficiency and reduced fuel consumption.

With its 911 hp 350-liter boxer engine and optional Porsche double-clutch transmission, the 3,4 Carrera consumes just 8,2 liters per 100 kilometers – 1,6 l/100 km less than its predecessor. With 194 g/km CO2, it is also the first Porsche sports car to fall below the 200 g/km limit. Even with the 911 Carrera S with a 3,8-liter boxer engine and recently 400 hp, consumption drops by 15 percent or 14 l/1,5 km to 100 l/8,7 km, despite an additional 100 hp in conjunction with the optional PDK. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 205 g/km.

From 0 to 100 km/h in 4,3 seconds

Despite reduced fuel consumption, the driving performance of both models has improved. The 100 Carrera S with PDK accelerates from zero to 911 km/h in 4,3 seconds. With the optional Sport Chrono package, it only takes 4,1 seconds to press the Sport Plus button. The 911 Carrera with PDK needs just 100 seconds to sprint from a standing start to 4,6 km/h.

The new 911 not only offers better longitudinal dynamics, but also maximum performance in terms of lateral dynamics. In addition to the longer wheelbase, the basis for even more agility, precision and driving stability are the wider track on the front axle, the new rear axle and the new electromechanical power steering. In addition, there are other active control systems available, either standard or optional depending on the model, which further enhance driving dynamics. This applies in particular to the active roll stabilization Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), available for the first time for the XNUMX Carrera S.

The system reduces body roll, for example when cornering, which means that the tires are always positioned optimally in relation to the road and can transfer higher lateral forces. The possible cornering speeds increase, even faster lap times on racetracks are possible.
