The smartphone counts the bumps

Damage analysis after traffic accidents is a complicated and lengthy affair. A mobile phone app from DAT is now supposed to accelerate work with artificial intelligence.

The cell phone now helps to assess accident damage. New software from Deutsche Automobil-Treuhand (DAT) uses a smartphone camera and image recognition software to record dents, scratches and dents, determine the expected repair costs and at the same time calculate the residual value of the vehicle. The tool's target group includes car dealerships, workshops, fleet operators and insurance companies.

The app called "Fast Track AI" detects the position and type of damage and detects where components are missing. The costs for repairs or replacements are called up online from a constantly updated database; the residual value is determined with the help of license plates and vehicle identification numbers, among other things. For example, total economic losses should be recognized quickly. DAT does not name the costs for the software service.
