Toyota sends the GT86 in the dirt

After Toyota has already gained experience with the GT86 and the circuit, they are now adding a “rally model”.

Toyota GT 86 R3

On the basis of the rear-wheel-drive sports car, the motorsport department of the Japanese car manufacturer is developing a competition-ready rally vehicle for everyone.

The TMG GT86 CS-R3 has, among other things, a sequential six-speed transmission, a limited slip differential, a modified engine and improved brakes. Thanks to these and other upgrades, it even meets the FIA R3 regulations and can be used in all rally series up to the WRC World Championship.

When developing the vehicle, the engineers put their experience to good use: with the GT86 CS-V3, they have already designed a racing car that was successfully on the Nürburgring this season as part of the VLN series. Toyota also offers the TMG Yaris R1A, a competitive vehicle primarily for newcomers to rallying.

“TMG has rallying in its blood. We are therefore particularly pleased about the expansion of our activities in this area. The rear-wheel drive of the GT86 CS-R3 certainly leads to one or two exciting situations in which drivers and fans alike will have fun, ”explains Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport at Toyota Motorsport GmbH.

The exact specifications and prices of the GT86 CS-R3 will be announced in the next few months. Customers will probably be able to use the new rally car from the 2015 season.
