Used car trade is becoming more digital

Who today one used cars seeks, uses the internet and digital offers. However, direct contact with the dealer is still important.  

Whether by email, WhatsApp, Facebook, websites or internet portals: used car dealers rely on digital instruments. A survey by the expert organization Dekra in cooperation with the market research institute Ipsos According to the survey, almost 80 percent of those surveyed use Internet sources for information, and 60 percent of buyers prefer digital contact with used car dealers. In the last survey in 2017, it was only 52 percent.  

Used car trade even on Facebook

When it comes to digital contact, emails dominate with a share of 48 percent; 21 percent of those surveyed rely on WhatsApp. 14 percent use a special dealer or manufacturer app. 8 percent of the survey participants contact Facebook via Facebook.  

Car dealership websites way up

Internet portals are still the most important source of information. Although their popularity has fallen from 2017 to 77 percent compared to 68, they still hold the top spot in terms of both frequency of use and relevance. In second place of the most frequently used sources are the websites of car dealers (41%). This is followed by the manufacturers' websites (30%), special used car apps (25%) and internet forums (20%). Moving images such as YouTube videos are becoming more popular. 16 percent of those surveyed use it as a source of information; 4 years ago the rate was only 6 percent.  

The analogue contact with the used car dealer remains important despite all the digitalization with an approval rate of 58 percent. Only 14 percent of those surveyed rely entirely on the Internet.
