The demand for new vehicles has recently increased again slightly. The individual brands benefit from this to varying degrees.
After the corona-related drop in demand in the first half of 2020, the New car market recovered somewhat between January and June of this year. Above all they could benefit Electric car-Providers. And most of the German brands also grew. But there are also prominent losers.
The biggest percentage plus of all manufacturers was in the first half of the year Smart book. The small car and electric brand increased by 359 percent to 12.253 new registrations, probably also because the delivery problems of the previous year seem to have been resolved. At that time, like many other e-cars, both models were almost impossible to get for months. Tesla was and is hardly affected by bottlenecks: With a plus of 170 percent, the Californians are in second place among the biggest winners of the half-year; a total of 13.768 cars hit the road. In third place among the brands with the greatest growth is Opel with 39 percent and 84.719 units. The new mini-SUV Mokka is likely to have a large share in the success here.
In addition to Smart and Opel, numerous other German brands also grew. BMW (plus 20 percent), VW (plus 34 percent) and Porsche (plus 26 percent) even exceeded the market average of 14,9 percent. Things went less well for Ford (minus 17 percent) and Mercedes (minus 0,6 percent).
Mitsubishi had the biggest losses, where sales fell by 35 percent to 15.659 units. At Jaguar, sales fell by 30 percent to 2.745 units; Last but not least, the British are suffering from the consequences of Brexit. It was similar for Honda, whose important European plant in England had to temporarily stop production. The brand's new registrations in Germany fell by 28 percent to 3.344 units in the first half of the year.
