VW ID. Life concept presentation

A small electric car as a multifunctional play vehicle for leisure activities: The VW study ID. Life can also be used as a cinema. But it should also be good for locomotion.

At the IAA Mobility (September 7th to 12th) VW is showing the ID. Life the study of a small battery electric car. The small electric car is expected to debut in 2025 and cost around 20.000 euros. It is aimed particularly at young people and wants to combine classic mobility and flexible usage concepts.

The Stromer is based on a smaller version of the Modular electric drive kit (MEB) and unlike the larger ID models, it has front-wheel drive. The study’s electric motor has an output of 172 kW / 234 hp and accelerates from 6,9 to 0 km / h in 100 seconds. A 57 kWh battery should be enough for a range of up to 400 kilometers (WLTP).

Visually, the ID Life relies on a no-frills design. Decorative elements and add-on parts such as exterior mirrors are missing. Cameras and a display replace both the exterior and interior mirrors. The roof, which consists of textile air chambers, can be removed. When choosing materials, sustainability was also considered. Wood chips are supposed to act as a natural coloring agent in the paint, the air chambers and the bonnet are made entirely of recycled PET bottles. Applications made of wood and environmentally friendly covers for seats and door panels are also part of the concept vehicle.

The interior can be redesigned in a few simple steps. In this way, the front bench can be folded down completely. Together with the rear seat, which can also be folded down, cinema seating, for example, is possible. Or the seat can be converted into a two-meter-long bed. The study also has a game console and a projector on board, so that the ID. Life also serves as a movie theater and player lounge. A projection screen serves as the screen and extends out of the dashboard when required.
