The new Porsche 911 Cabriolet - let summer come!

The temperatures are not (yet) inviting for topless riding. But summer will come, of that we are quite sure. And so that you too are ready in time for the new open-air season, we are presenting the new Porsche 911 Cabriolet to you today. Six weeks after the presentation of the new coupé, the new 911 Cabriolet is here.

[dropcap size=big]911[/dropcap]Since 1982, the open XNUMX variant has been firmly integrated into the model range of the Zuffenhausen-based sports car brand. The open version of the sports car icon has all the innovations of the coupe. One of the specific further developments for the Cabriolet is a new hydraulic system that opens and closes the convertible top more quickly than before.

The convertible adopts the current design language of the new Porsche 911 coupe. The fully automatic soft top has a fixed glass rear window. The soft top can be opened and closed up to a speed of 50 km/h. A new roof hydraulics shortens the opening time to around twelve seconds. An electrically extendable wind deflector is used so that it does not get too drafty when driving briskly.

The Porsche 911 Cabriolet starts as a Carrera S with rear-wheel drive and as a Carrera 4S with all-wheel drive. Both work with the 2.981 cc, supercharged six-cylinder boxer engine with 331 kW (450 hp) and 530 Newton meters of torque. An improved injection process and newly arranged turbochargers including charge air cooling increase efficiency and reduce emissions.

[dropcap size=big]306[/dropcap]Power is sent to the drive axles via a newly developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Carrera S accelerates from a standstill to 3,9 km/h in 100 seconds. The optional Sport Chrono package is two seconds faster. Its top speed is 306 km/h. The Carrera 4S reaches a top speed of 304 km/h and accelerates to 3,8 km/h in 100 seconds. With the Sport Chrono Package it is just 3,6 seconds.

Open, deep, broad and strong

Due to the new position of the engine mounts, the Cabriolet is even more torsionally stiff than its predecessor. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) sports suspension is available for the first time for the 911 Cabriolet. The springs in this case are harder and shorter. The anti-roll bars on the front and rear axles are stiffer, and the overall chassis has been lowered by ten millimeters. This means that the new 911 is even more neutral and balanced on the road.

The exterior design is based on early 911s

The new 911 Cabriolet appears wider, more self-confident and overall more muscular than its predecessor. Wider fenders arch over the large wheels with a diameter of 20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear. The rear-wheel drive models adopt the previous body width of the all-wheel drive models. They are 44 millimeters wider at the rear and 45 millimeters at the front.

At the front, the wider front end picks up on a traditional theme from previous 911 generations. The luggage compartment hood, which extends long forwards, with a distinctive indentation in front of the windscreen. Both stretch the front end and add dynamism.

The interior is characterized by the clear, straight lines of the dashboard with the instrument panel set back. As in the original 10,9, the dashboard runs across the entire width between two horizontal wing levels. In addition to the centrally positioned rev counter, two thin, frameless free-form displays inform the driver. A XNUMX" center screen of the Porsche Communication Management can be operated quickly and without distraction.

Porsche assistance systems for more safety and comfort

As a world first, Porsche has developed the standard wet mode. The function detects water on the road, preconditions the control systems accordingly and warns the driver. This then tunes the car to safety at the touch of a button or via the mode switch on the steering wheel.

A standard warning and braking assistant uses cameras to detect the risk of collisions with vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists and, if necessary, initiates a warning or emergency braking. The parking assistant including reversing camera complements the standard equipment of the Cabriolet. A night vision device with thermal imaging camera is available as an option for the Porsche 911.
