What could get better in 2021

E-mobility has made the breakthrough, the diesel is finally clean, the number of road deaths is falling - not everything was bad in 2020. But there is still plenty of room for improvement in 2021.

2020 will not necessarily go down in history as a particularly carefree one. 2021 should be a little nicer again. Five wishes from the driver's perspective.

More cheap cars

Cars are becoming more and more economical, cleaner and safer. And therefore always more expensive. The trend will intensify in the coming year and beyond, when CO2 fines and exhaust emission limits cause mass deaths in micro and small cars with internal combustion engines. That you can still build cheap cars is currently shown by Dacia with the Sandero, which will start in 2021. Or Citroen, who leave the well-trodden paths with the electric Ami micro-mobile.

Load lighter

Plug in and go - charging an electric car could be so easy. After all: The time of QR code scans and fiddly RFID cards at public charging stations is drawing to a close, since more and more cars and power stations have mastered the “plug-and-charge” technology. In the coming year, the simple fueling and billing model should finally gain broad acceptance. It will still be a few years before it is standard everywhere.

Good operating systems

Today's cars can do so much and offer such a multitude of functions that the operation using buttons and switches, which has been common for decades, has long been irrelevant. The rotary push button or even the touch screen are increasingly reaching their limits. And even if voice control is becoming more and more intelligible - really convincing operating concepts are still a rarity in cars. Maybe it'll work out next year.

Another auto show

Expensive, hectic, superfluous - before 2020 people liked to blaspheme about automobile fairs. How exciting and informative they really are is only noticed when they are missing. Like this Corona year. PR films at Youtube presentations and road shows in masked pedestrian zones are just a stale substitute. The coming year will also start without the traditional trade fair in Geneva. But there is still hope for the IAA in autumn. For the first time the show takes place in Munich and with a different concept.

There were hardly any pictures like these to see in 2020 - will they return in 2021?

legal certainty

The amendment to the road traffic regulations and the tightening of penalties provided therein were not well received by all drivers. That should be relieved accordingly that it was initially collected due to a formal error. It is currently a bit in the balance, in 2021 it could come into force again in a modified, probably somewhat defused form.
