Also SUBARU now with a platform strategy

The slightly rustic Subaru Forester has just been presented in a more refined way, the Impreza and XV models have also “freshened up” when we received the message from:

"Subaru Global Platform"

So now SUBARU too. The rock in the surf of the “automobile monotony” presents a platform on which a large number of new models will be created by 2020. And even if the basis of the platform is still the boxer engine and of course the permanent all-wheel drive, hybrid, plug-in hybrid and EV are now also on the “to do list”.

Platforms are nothing special. What sounds like you only ever replace the base plate of a Lego Duplo car is a little more complicated in the automotive industry. Platforms and modular solutions, however, enable the rapid and cost-effective development of different vehicles on just one platform. Whereby platform technologies can refer to “safety and assistance systems”.

SUBARU is pursuing 3 goals with the implementation of the “Global Platform”

  • A dynamic driving experience
  • Safety
  • alternative drives

The new “Global Platform” from SUBARU promises a 70 to 100% stiffer design of the body and chassis structure. This is the basis for driving comfort, performance and driving pleasure. The stiffer the body, the more sensitively a chassis can be tuned, the quieter and more comfortable the vehicle becomes.

When it comes to safety, SUBARU uses, among other things, the use of high-strength steel, formed in a hot-pressing process. New vehicles based on the “Global Platform” are said to absorb up to 40% more energy in the event of an accident than current vehicles. The aim is to be among the manufacturers with the highest level of body safety in 2025 as well.

Alternative drives are still under development at SUBARU. But SUBARU will also be able to implement hybrid, plug-in hybrids and pure e-vehicles with the Global platform. These will then be built on the same production lines as the classic models with the SUBARU boxer engine, which is currently available as a naturally aspirated engine, turbo engine and diesel engine.
