Berlin leads in alternative drives

The German Energy Agency has published new figures on the market shares of alternative drives. They are good, also because the criteria are relatively soft.

The proportion of alternative drives in new cars is highest in Berlin in Germany. In the capital, 46,9 percent of all newly registered cars were equipped with an electric, hybrid or gas drive in the first ten months of the year, according to the monitoring report published by the federally owned company. Baden-Württemberg followed with 45,3 percent and North Rhine-Westphalia with 45 percent. Hamburg brings up the rear, where the share of alternative drives is only 31,1 percent.

BMW at the top

In addition to the classic alternative drives - from gas to electric motors - dena also takes mild hybrids into account in its statistics, similar to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). This also makes itself felt on the top seller list of vehicles with alternative drives. The BMW 29.163 Series, which is available as a plug-in hybrid, but also in various mildly electrified versions, lands in first place with 3 units sold. With this simple variant of the hybrid drive, a small electric motor helps the combustion engine, especially when starting and accelerating, which reduces the standard consumption by a few centiliters. Purely electric driving is not possible.

The all-electric Tesla Model 3 took second place among the best-selling cars with alternative drives with 25.341 units, while the Audi A6 / S6 / RS6 (mild hybrid and PHEV) came third with 24.737 units. VW has ranks four and five with the E-Golf (24.464 units) and the all-electric ID.3 (23.684 units). In total, dena has almost 905.000 new vehicles with alternative drives for the current year, which corresponds to a market share of 41,2 percent. Electric cars and plug-in hybrids each make up around 30 percent of this, 40 percent are hybrids and mild hybrids.
