BMW Operating System 7

The one-field search mask of the navigation system did not go down well with many BMW customers. The Munich-based company is now offering the old interface as an alternative via a software update.

BMW is rolling out a software update for its infotainment system. The new version of the “Operating System 7”, which was introduced a year ago, received by radio, among other things, bug fixes and small functional improvements. For example, the destination can now be entered in the navigation system again using the traditional search mask with individual fields for individual parts of the address. Finally, the city, street and house number had to be entered in a common search field - according to BMW, many customers wanted the old procedure back, which is now stored as an alternative in the software. In addition, the car will in future also remember after the engine has been restarted if the driver wants the lane departure warning system to be permanently deactivated. A total of 1,3 million users can download the update. Last but not least, this should be of interest to BMW drivers in the USA, France and Brazil, for whom the Alexa network has now been activated. The voice assistant has been in use in Germany for a long time.
