Every third person is A +

The proportion of new cars with low fuel consumption is increasing. Every third car is now in the best class.

Every third new car in Germany now falls into the best efficiency class. In the first four months, according to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), 277.286 “A +” cars were newly registered. That was 74 percent more than in the same period last year.

The market share of the A + models rose from 19 to 31 percent within one year. In return, the number of B-vehicles fell from 34 to 23 percent and that of A-cars from 23 to 19 percent.

The efficiency class classification is not based on the absolute consumption, but evaluates it in relation to the vehicle weight. This means that larger sedans and SUVs can also achieve good ratings. Nevertheless, only pure electric cars, plug-in hybrids and hybrids make it into the A + category; the A list also includes fuel-efficient petrol, diesel and gas cars.
