At the current Auto Salon in Paris, which can still be found up to the 16. October, we have been able to see a lot this year, which is mainly under the star of electromobility. Future music - at least for many manufacturers. Honda, meanwhile, shows the new Honda Civic and the associated Type R. "Again?", Many will ask. Yes, it is true: the current model was only shown as a prototype at the Geneva Motor Show last year and the successor is already in the starting blocks. The changing of the guard follows in the second half of the year 2017.
The first reviews are just over, there is already a new model in the pipeline. We are talking about Honda Civic Type R. Only shown in Geneva in March 2015, the Japanese are currently giving an outlook on the new model in Paris. Honda does not reveal much yet, but gives a detailed look at the design. And if we take something back from the study shown in Geneva, it is that it is very close to the original product.
Not inconspicuous, the new Honda Civic Type R is not
That could be the case with the new Honda Civic Type R. Basically, the new compact sports car is based on the five-door sedan and thus shows low and wide proportions. The external appearance is not only powerful: the sporty add-on parts also benefit the aerodynamics. This is ensured, for example, by the front with its distinctive bumper, which is supplemented by a wing-shaped front splitter. Additional air inlets not only provide cooling for the relevant units, but also improve the airflow.
As it has become for a Honda Civic Type R, the exterior is striking and polarizing. Expansive wings and the unusual body shape please - or not. The outer skin with a kind of aluminum finish fits in perfectly with the eye-catching appearance. Typically, the compact athlete wears a red H as the brand logo, as one is used to from all Type R. There are also smoke-gray full-LED headlights, indicators and side indicators on the front. This makes the sportiest of all Civic look wicked.
The side skirts in carbon fall, despite their red trim, less on the side than the wheels. The Japanese installed 20 inch rims, which raises the question of where the delusions of grandeur should go when choosing wheels. The rear spoiler is also not exactly small: it picks up the roof arches that run out to the rear and sits enthroned on the boot lid. Finally, a carbon rear diffuser, which takes up the structure of the side skirts, is found two floors down. Housed in its center: three fully functional exhaust pipes. One of them is red and skilfully picks up the red pinstripe that can be seen on the front and side. The optics should therefore be clarified. The only question is what is slumbering under the sheet.
