As the name suggests, a seasonal license plate is not valid all year round. At first glance, this looks like a disadvantage, but for some drivers it can be an advantage. But who is the seasonal license plate especially suitable for?

A seasonal license plate is only valid for a certain period of at least two and a maximum of eleven months. During this limited period of time, the owner of the car also has reduced insurance and vehicle tax rates , which is only calculated for the season period. This solution is interesting, for example, for owners of seasonal vehicles such as mobile homes, convertibles and of course for motorcycles that are put in the garage during the cold season. In order not to have to go to the registration office twice a year to register and de-register, there is a seasonal license plate, which remains on the vehicle even if it is not used.
What is different about a seasonal license plate?
Unfortunately, the period in which a seasonal license number is valid cannot be extended; in this case, a new period of registration must be requested from the registration authority. The valid time frame is stamped on the right of the license plate. The number that can be seen above the line always indicates the month when the "season" begins, the number below the line indicates when it ends. If a motorhome is registered from May 1st to November 1st, then "05" is at the top and "11" below the line. A year is not specified on this special license plate because the seasonal license plate is only valid for a certain period of time.
What does such a license plate cost?
The seasonal license plate is requested from the local licensing authority and it costs between 27 and 35 euros, depending on the effort. The owners of the vehicle with a seasonal license plate should strictly adhere to the period in which they are allowed to drive their motorhome, motorcycle or convertible. If they do not, then they violate the so-called compulsory insurance law and commit a criminal offense.
