N24h: These 8 facts you need to know 2016

The 1970-hour race has been held on the Nordschleife since 24 - and the organizers have repeatedly introduced innovations together with their partners. They made the event the biggest race at the Nürburgring and one of the international motorsport highlights. Also this year there are a number of innovations that make the event even more interesting

1.) Racing without limits

The speed limits on the Nordschleife that were valid last year have been lifted after extensive construction work and organizational changes.

2.) Mediengruppe RTL as television partner

RTL NITRO broadcasts almost 26 hours live from Saturday to Sunday - that's a world record. In addition, there are other programs from training, and the main channel RTL reports from Monaco as part of its Formula 1 reporting.

3.) Audi Sport TT Cup

The racing series for young drivers is part of the supporting program for the first time. Training sessions and races are held on the Grand Prix course.

4.) Sector times

For a long time it was considered technically impossible - until the experts at "_wige" implemented it: From this year on, the timekeeping system shows sector times for the first time. The intermediate times are measured in five sections of the route.

5.) Action is illuminated

Starting this year, the pit lane will be illuminated at night, and on the Grand Prix track between Hohenrain-Schikane and Michael-Schumacher-S, complex additional lighting sheds light on the drivers and TV cameras.

6.) Adenauer Racing Day on the main street

The prologue for the race at Adenauer Racing Day on Wednesday (May 25) was relocated to the main street in the center of the racing city for 2016.

7.) Fan offers

The extensive range continues to grow. In the Eifeldorf Nürburgring, the “Family Fun Area” attracts families with children. The sport lumberjacks of the Stihl Timbersports Series can be seen in the fan arena (historic paddock).

8.) Team time trial in the WTCC

After the WTCC qualifying on Friday, points for the manufacturers' championship will be on the agenda: three vehicles each from Citroën, Honda and Lada will take to the track in the “MAC3” (“Manufacturers against the Clock”). The clock does not stop until the third vehicle crosses the finish line.
