New BMW M5 - sporty luxury sedan with V8

This is BMW's new high-performance sedan, the new BMW M5. It dominates the premium segment of the upper class, a dynamic high-performance sports car with four doors and five seats. The fifth generation will soon be on the market and manages the balancing act between use on the racetrack and a business sedan.

New BMW M5

A newly designed, high-revving 5 liter V4,4 engine is celebrating its world premiere in the new BMW M8. The engine is twin-turbocharged and with direct fuel injection it delivers 412 kW or 560 hp. It delivers 680 Newton meters of torque to the rear axle.

The new BMW M5

BMW has optimized the relationship between fuel consumption and driving performance in the new M5. The Munich limousine accelerates to country road speed in just 4,4 seconds. 200 km/h are reached in just 13 seconds. The top speed of the BMW M5 is limited to 250 kilometers per hour. If you “book” the M Driver’s Package, this is then a top speed of 305 km/h. Despite a 10% increase in power compared to its predecessor, fuel consumption has been reduced by more than 30%.

Agile handling with an active differential

The engine's power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed M dual-clutch transmission via shift paddles on the steering wheel. The new BMW M5 offers extremely agile handling thanks to a new rear axle drive with an active M differential. This means optimized traction and stability when accelerating out of corners or when changing lanes.

The drivers of the BMW M5 also have to brake from time to time. In order to bring the 1,9-ton sports package to a standstill in good time in many situations, 400 mm brake discs at the front and 396 mm brake discs, each with six-piston calipers, slow the BMW down.

Large air intakes to cool the V8

The new M5 also shows its sporty inner values visually. BMW attaches great importance to a characteristic M body design with a functional reference to performance. Large air intakes for cooling the brake system and the V8 engine are incorporated into the front apron. Wide wheel arches emphasize the wide track. A diffuser in the rear apron ensures aerodynamic values, and turn signal rods are integrated into the distinctive gill-shaped elements to indicate lane changes. The BMW M5 rolls on 19-inch light-alloy wheels in a double-spoke design.

In the interior, which conveys a combination of luxurious ambience and sports car flair, vehicle information is conveyed to the driver by means of a head-up display. Features such as adaptive headlights, lane departure warning, surround view and person recognition via Night Vision make the driver's work easier. But the BMW M5 also has a lot to offer in terms of multimedia. There is the option of using the Internet, integrating smartphones with information on real traffic events, using apps to receive web radio, plus using Twitter and Facebook.

The new BMW M5

As the new BMW M5, it can officially be seen at the upcoming IAA in September in Frankfurt. An exact price is also not yet known. However, the previous version of the M5 cost around 95.000 euros.

Incidentally, a touring version of the M5 is not planned until further notice, ie the sporty 5 Series will only be available as a sedan.
