Mercedes introduces the C-Class Cabriolet at the Geneva Motor Show. For the drive of the open version with a classic soft top, there is a choice of engines with a power range from 115 kW / 156 PS up to 270 kW / 367 PS. Among the dealers is the C-Class convertible this summer.
From the larger S-Class convertible, the open middle class has taken over the fabric construction of the folding roof with glass rear window. It takes twenty seconds to open the roof and disappear under the hatch in the boot. This also works while driving, as long as the speed is not more than 50 km / h. With an open roof, 285 liters of luggage space are available. If it's closed, it's 360 liters. In the basic dimensions, the open version is similar to the coupe. By the standard lowering by 1,5 centimeters opposite the sedan and the 17 inch large rims, the convertible looks a bit sportier.
Derived from the Coupé are the sport seats with the strong side bolsters, the integrated head restraints and the optional headroom heater Airscarf. In the back seat, the companions sit on individual seats, which are foldable split. Always on board is the belt feeder. An optionally available wind block system behind the rear seats ensures air calming in the interior. The extendable wind deflectors on top of the windscreen frame have the same function. In addition, as is known from the open S-Class, an air-conditioning system that also allows for topless rides in winter.
When it comes to engines, Mercedes uses the C-Class shelf. At the market launch, there are six petrol and two diesel engines to choose from. The entry marks the C 180 with a 115 KW / 156 PS strong petrol engine. At the other end of the performance peak is the Mercedes-AMG C43 4Matic Convertible, which is powered by a 3,0 liter V6 biturbo engine with 270 KW / 367 PS. The new nine-speed automatic transmission is available for all engine types. The all-wheel drive is designed with rear-emphasis.
What the open pleasure costs, is not fixed yet. The coupe is currently starting at 35.600 Euro, for the convertible should be at least 40.000 Euro due.
Unlike the earlier 1997 CLK, the convertible does not replace the open E-Class. The will appear next year and higher positioned to maintain the distance to the C-model and not to let the gap to the S-convertible too large. After the just freshly revised two-seater SL and SLC and the Smart Convertible then really lacks only an open A-class in the portfolio.
