News: Subaru Levorg: He's punching his way through

With the Levorg, Subaru sends the successor of the legacy blessed with over a quarter of a century of tradition to the streets. The mid-range estate is only available with a 1,6-liter turbo gasoline. And, of course, the 28.900 kW / 125 hp four-cylinder, available from 170 euros, is a typical boxer.

The engineers stiffened the body by up to 40 percent compared to the predecessor. The wheelbase and the outer length shrank by 10 centimeters, which should make the Subaru more manageable. Nevertheless, the manufacturer promises that the distance between the rear seats and the front backrest has increased by 2,5 to 8,5 centimeters despite the external reduction. The trunk of the mid-size estate swallows up to 1.450 liters.

With 250 Nm of torque, the engine even surpasses the 2,5-liter petrol engine from the outback by 15 Nm. If you believe the manufacturer, it will take less than 9 seconds to reach highway speed. The power is transmitted exclusively via a CVT transmission, which basically fits the car well. You can hardly be more supple in moderate operation, and the efficiency is also right. The situation is different in the full-load range if high contact pressures and the energy-consuming oil flows then drive up real consumption.

The interior design of the Levorg is sober, but well processed. A work of art from the interplay of fine woods and noble-looking aluminum or carbon was not to be expected. The new Subaru is a functional car with no frills. However, it has already reached modernity, as the large touchscreen shows. With infotainment and assistance, however, the specialists still have to eradicate a few blemishes. Why does the so-called eyesight camera, including distance cruise control and autonomous braking, not appear in the list? And why is there only navigation in the highest equipment variant (sport: from 34.900 euros) and for the other variants not even for an extra charge?

After all, the bottom line is the price-performance ratio for the balanced Levorg. After all, the automatic, Bluetooth hands-free system, LED main light, reversing camera and keyless locking system are always there for well under 30.000 euros.
