Sleepless in Stuttgart

The idea sounded crazy and I confess, in line with my prejudices, I didn't trust the Stuttgart-based automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz to have such a crazy idea and then put it into practice.

One night in the Mercedes-Benz Museum

In contrast to the Hollywood film with Ben Stiller, I was not alone in the museum - a fairly manageable group of automobile freaks was out and about in the Mercedes Museum with me all night.

At Daimler, they are rightly proud of the new museum, within walking distance of the corporate headquarters in Stuttgart Untertürkheim. What has been placed there in the Stuttgart soil, in terms of design, easily takes on the Guggenheim in New York. And yes, I know the Guggenheim in New York :). Even if I'm really not a “museum-goer”.

However, I make an exception for automobile museums.

Lights off, flash on. Should I now write an homage to the Hollywood film with Ben Stiller and bore you with flat comparisons? Or write a script template for Night at Museum 3.1? Certainly not. Shall I tell you how to sleep at night when you are right next to priceless exhibits and can smell the pathos of the early days of automobiles?

All cheese - I have pictures tell the story:

A night in the Mercedes-Benz Museum offers the opportunity for unique photos. Photos of exhibits that you can calmly observe in all angles. Personally, I'm not the best photographer - luckily my colleague Teymur was there too. You shouldn't miss his photos.

If you stroll through the concrete areas of the Mercedes Museum at night, looking for a suitable place to sleep, it can happen - that you will find a special attraction in the foyer of the museum.

Last night it was the Carl Benz motor car - and as it should be for a “night in the museum”, the ancestor of today's automobiles came to life:

What a great moment. With a sound mix of hissing, popping and a subtle “motorbike”, a replica of the legendary motor vehicle makes its rounds on the museum hill. The night was worth it - even if shortly after sunrise not only the whole spook was over, but also the insight had to come:

There is no room in the Mercedes-Benz Museum for a quiet night with enough “sleep”. Luckily!
